After having received confirmation from UPS and Freightquote on Monday that our boats re in Santiago de Chile, and "2 days later" in Punta Arenas, we will take a bus to Punta Arenas on Saturday (an appr 10 hours bus ride) to receive the boats. Punta Arenas is now the new starting point of the heavy delayed Tierra Del Fuego Sea Kayak Expedition 2010.
We hope we will be able to receive the boats on Saturday, or latest Monday, and will be finally able to start our expedition.
The "in only 2 days in Punta Arenas" ETA was revised by UPS and Freightquote only a few hours later, explaining Chilean Customs was on strike on Tuesday, which does not explain why our boats have not cleared customs Monday, and are still resting in Santiago since past Saturday.
Anyway, the great news is that Kiko, a kayaker from Punta Arenas, offered to help us with logistics in Punta Arenas (thank you, Kiko!), and we are crossing our fingers that we will be on the water by Monday afternoon ...

ReplyDeleteJaubertot:
ReplyDeleteIf you see in this article of wilkipedia at the end it shows a map of the result of the last peace agreement that made our countries (chile and Argentine) about this zone:
http://es.wilkipedia.org/wiki/archivo:beagle1984.png
In the map you will see two lines one red (the limit) and one yellow, the free zone to navigate ships with Argentine flag.
That is the reason why Marcus and Biff, can have if they want a ship with Argentine flag in all their trip and that ship can navigate that waters freely as a chilenan because of this agreement.
Alejandro
Sorry Jaubertot is wikipedia, not wilkipedia
